Hours: 25 hrs/week– Non-exempt position  /  Union position: Yes - OPEIU            

Principal Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Assistant Director and WPC Site Director will assist in the planning and implementation of the activities offered.  Provide general supervision to children and staff.  The Assistant Site Director is responsible for the site when the Site Director cannot be at the program.  

To be performed on a daily basis:

1.    Assist and support Site Director through guidance and support of staff; in a constructive, positive, and direct manner to ensure a cooperative team environment.

2.    Assist with maintaining positive parent relations.

3.    Attend and participate in monthly site-director meeting and professional development.

4.    Be a role model by exhibiting appropriate behavior at all times and by maintaining a high level of professionalism and integrity.

5.    Demonstrate cultural competence and fairness when working with all students, staff, parents, volunteers and school personnel.

6.    Assists with annual program set up prior to start of school year and packing up at the end of the school.

7.    Assist with maintaining children’s daily attendance, check in/check out, schedule changes.

8.    Maintain daily communications with their partner schools relating to the needs of students and or issues with students as they arise.

9.    Maintain daily communication with school staff regarding children in the WPC program regarding any issues that arise.

10.    Other duties as required by the Site Director to support the program.

Required Experience, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:  Must be able to engage in and supervise active play with children.  Supervisory experience preferred.  Must be creative and have excellent communication skills.  A flexible and a team-work approach are essential.

Education, Training, Special Licensure/Certification Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Recreation, Physical Education or a related field preferred.  Must have 1+ years experience working with elementary school children.  Must acquire basic First Aid Training and be certified in Infant/Child/Adult CPR.

Contacts (boards & committees, vendors, general public, etc.): Parents, general public, school department , and department employees. 

Supervisory Responsibility (Include Positions Supervised): Recreation program staff

Responsibility for Operating Budget: N/A

Summary of Occupational Exposures:  Outdoor environment with uneven surfaces

Environment:   Inside: 50%              Outside: 50%

Salary:  $18.93 per hour 

Location:   Recreation Department                                                              

Approximate Start Date:  As soon as possible
