The Town of Ayer, Massachusetts is seeking a self-motivated, highly qualified applicant for the position of Mechanic for the Department of Public Works (DPW) Highway Division. The Highway Division is responsible for maintaining and snow plowing approximately 50 miles of roads, mowing public areas, and maintaining stormwater systems. This position is primarily responsible for maintenance and repair work on gas and diesel vehicles, trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes and other DPW vehicles and equipment.
Candidate must have a High School education supplemented by one year of technical or vocational training as a mechanic; five (5) years’ experience as a mechanic performing gas, diesel and hydraulic repair work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses required include CDL B, Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer’s License (Hydraulics), and 4G Hoisting/Flailing.
Base rate of pay up to $31.18 per hour and license increments of up to $1.45 per hour. Overtime pay available. License increments include CDL, hydraulics, hoisting, stipends included for boots and clothing, per the union contract.
