United Way of North Central Massachusetts Holiday Food Drive Supports Over 720 Local Families

New Members

The United Way of North Central Massachusetts (UWNCM) proudly announces the successful completion of its 2024 Holiday Food Drive, which distributed over $38,000 worth of food to 13 local agencies, benefiting more than 720 families across the region.
From October 15 to December 12, 2024, UWNCM setup 49 donation boxes at banks, libraries, churches, and grocery stores, making it easy for community members to contribute non-perishable food items. The generosity of local residents was overwhelming, and the boxes quickly filled with donations.
“We're incredibly grateful to the United Way of NCM and the entire North Central Massachusetts community for their support during the holiday season,” said Julie Meehan, Executive Director of Gardner CAC. “We've seen an unprecedented increase in families and individuals facing food insecurity, underscoring the critical need for this food drive. This collective effort has been vital in ensuring our community members have access to the food they need. Here in Gardner, we've witnessed the power of collective giving—many small contributions have come together to make a big impact, helping to brighten the holiday season for many!”
Local food pantries played a crucial role in collecting and distributing donated items throughout the drive. UWNCM also collaborated with Growing Places, a local nonprofit, to purchase fresh, locally grown produce, such as potatoes, carrots, onions, and apples. Additionally, UWNCM procured supplementary food items to ensure a well-rounded distribution.”
“We greatly appreciate all of our valued partners who helped us feed over 720 families this holiday season,” said Judy Tomlinson, Director of Community Impact for UWNCM. “We hope to host our next food drive starting in April. Food insecurity affects families year-round, so let's work together to stock the shelves of our local emergency food providers this spring.”
Volunteers from the Boys & Girls Club of Lunenburg, along with other dedicated individuals, played an essential role by donating their time to organize and pack donations at the United Way office. Their efforts ensured a smooth and efficient transition from collection to distribution.
