2026 Massachusetts HIRD Filing Reminder
Employer filing period: November 15 – December 15, 2026
Massachusetts employers should review their annual Health Insurance Responsibility Disclosure (HIRD) filing obligation and submit the required information by December 15.
Who must file?
Any employer that had six or more employees working in Massachusetts during any month in the preceding 12 months must file, even if the employer does not offer health insurance.
When is the filing due?
The annual filing window opens November 15 and closes December 15. For 2026, the deadline is December 15, 2026.
How to file through MassTaxConnect
A third-party payroll provider or professional employer organization (PEO) may file on the employer’s behalf. Confirm in advance who is responsible for filing, provide any requested plan information, and obtain confirmation that the submission was completed. The employer should not assume the filing is handled automatically.
Important reminder
The HIRD form is an employer reporting requirement. It does not require employers to offer health insurance solely because they meet the HIRD filing threshold.
