The Town of Acton has openings for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. This is a 42 hour/week position responsible for fire suppression, fire prevention and education, advanced life support emergency medical care, rescue and other emergency and non-emergency duties.
General Duties and Responsibilities: Responds to fire alarms, medical emergencies, and other calls to protect life and property; participates in fire prevention, training, station and equipment maintenance activities; receives general supervision from higher level supervisory and management staff and exercises functional and technical supervision over assigned staff. Physical Demands: The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Candidates must be able to pass the Massachusetts Physical Ability Test (PAT) for Firefighters (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88L_zlDG-M4). Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: Massachusetts Paramedic Certification, ACLS, CPR, PALS, Driver’s License and minimum of GED.
Special Requirements: Firefighting and rescue techniques, methods and practices. Advanced emergency medical procedures and patient assessment techniques. Arithmetic computations and formulas. Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation. Computer applications involving word processing, data entry and/or standard report generation. Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, often in situations which may be stressful.
Pay Rate: Starting salary $65,568.36 annually, plus a 14% EMT-P Stipend.
