6-18-2022 (Ballroom)
Steve Katz has played on an enviable string of recordings during the 1960s and '70s, in acoustic folk, jazz, blues, R&B, hard rock and almost every other popular genre that's come along in America since the start of the 1960s.
Perhaps best known as a member of the rock-pop-jazz group, Blood Sweat & Tears (with Al Kooper, Jim Fielder, Fred Lipsius, Randy Brecker, Jerry Weiss, Dick Halligan, and Bobby Colomby) Katz was also part of the formation of the original 60s folk group the Even Dozen Jug Band, (with Stefan Grossman, Peter Seigal, David Grisman, Maria Muldaur, Joshua Rifkin and John Sebastian), the innovative Greenwich Village folk-rock group The Blues Project, (with Al Kooper and Danny Kalb) and finally, the country-rock super group, American Flyer (with Craig Fuller of Pure Prairie League, Eric Kaz of Blues Magoos and Doug Yule of Velvet Underground). While in Blood Sweat & Tears, Katz recorded four albums with the band resulting in several chart-topping hits and millions of record sales worldwide.
Throughout the end of the 1960s and early 70s, he performed at countless historic venues including both Fillmore East & West and several major rock festivals including the Monterey Pop Festival and Woodstock.
Katz also produced albums by Elliott Murphy, the great Irish band Horslips and three albums by Lou Reed, including the best-selling and critically acclaimed "Rock ’n Roll Animal."
Over the years Steve has captivated audiences with his unique blend of story and song. His memoirs were recently published by Lyons Press in 2015 in a book called "Blood, Sweat, and My Rock 'n' Roll Years: Is Steve Katz a Rock Star?"
