South Coast Development Will Benefit From $2.3 M Sewer Grant
Public /Private Partnership Nets Big Results at Groton’s 4-Corners
Groton- Governor Charlie Baker along with the Commonwealth’s Economic and Housing Secretary Jay Ash will be in Groton at the 4-Corners to award the town of Groton a $2.3 M Mass Works Grant to extend sewer from Ayer/Devens to the 4-Corners site. Baker and Ash will be joined by a plethora of local elected officials including Senator Eileen Donahue, State Representative Sheila Harrington and Groton Town manager Mark Haddad. There will also be a strong contingent of members of the Nashoba Valley Chamber of Commerce including Chamber president Melissa Fetterhoff.
South Coast Development purchased this long blighted parcel from longtime restauranteur Joe Wong this past spring with plans to develop the property around a new Medical Center. Plans at the moment call for over 27,000 SF of developed space. “This is where Carolyn and I raised our children, and we have a strong, strong affinity for the Groton Community and will build something that will last the test of time” offered South Coast Development founder and president “Mickey” Higgins,” Someone from my family will in all likelihood drive thru this development every day, we want to be proud of what is here.” Higgins has lived in Groton most of his adult life and heads a development entity that has projects underway across the Commonwealth. South Coast counts both Cumberland Farm’s and Mobil Oil as two long established business partners. “We build it right; on time and on budget and find that a prescription for success,” echoed Higgins.
Higgins credited South Coasts Director of Development, Frank Hartnett Jr. with having the vision and wherewithal to negotiate the purchase and secure the sewer grant. “Frank always says he is the best and I am quickly becoming a big fan”, said Higgins.
“Mark Haddad along with Laurie Bonavita worked side by side with us as we lobbied the state”, stated Hartnett. “Mark understands the principle of how effective a public/private partnership can be when both sides work toward a common goal”. Hartnett said now let’s get work and transform this entire area into a destination location.
South Coast plans to complete design work in the next couple of weeks and then will enter into the town permitting process. Hartnett concluded, “we are in discussion with several local hospitals, along with ancillary uses. We also will have pad sites for a financial institution, health center and coffee shop”.
Interested parties can call Frank Hartnett at 978-732-3593 or 978-391-1014.
