NAMI’s 11-week Peer-to-Peer Recovery Education Program
10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Clinton
Individuals interested in enrolling in Peer-to-Peer should contact Diane at 978-302-4170 (quiltjoe@yahoo.com) or Caryl at 508-574-0603cmleeds@comcaast.net) for additional information.
The 11-week Peer-to-Peer Education Program, meeting once a week for two and a half hours, is taught by two NAMI-trained Mentors who themselves have a mental illness. The audience is adults (over 18) with a mental illness who are looking to better understand their condition and their journey in recovery. The program includes presentations, discussions, and interactive exercises. The program does not recommend specific medical or treatment approaches.
NAMI Peer-to-Peer helps individuals:
• Create a personalized relapse prevention plan
• Learn how to interact with health care providers
• Develop confidence for making decisions and reducing stress
• Stay up-to-date on mental health research
• Understand the impact of symptoms on one’s life
• Access practical resources on how to maintain one’s journey toward recovery
Each class contains a combination of lectures and interactive exercise materials and closes with Mindfulness Practice (techniques offered to develop and expand awareness).
A special component of the class is MyMoments, a program using Expressive Digital Imagery (EDI) that helps individuals express feelings, tell their stories, and increase resilience and understanding. Individuals work with an easy-to-use app on an iPad (provided by the program for those who do not have one), modifying photographs that they already have or that they take or find as part of the program.
