The Town of Acton is seeking a part-time EV Van Driver to provide safe, reliable transportation for older adults and individuals with disabilities to medical appointments, shopping destinations, programs, and other approved locations. This position plays an essential role in supporting independence and community engagement for our Acton community. The schedule is approximately 15 hours per week and no more than 18 hours, and may include both morning and afternoon shifts. This position may be grant-funded and is subject to the availability of continued funding.
General Duties and Responsibilities: The Van Driver is responsible for the safe operation of municipal vehicles, including electric vehicles (EVs), while transporting residents to designated locations on time. Duties include assisting passengers entering and exiting the vehicle, ensuring passengers arrive to the proper location, and maintaining a professional, courteous, and helpful demeanor at all times. The position requires completion of a pre-shift vehicle inspection using the designated inspection form, daily checks of safety equipment, tires, heat, charging levels, and overall cleanliness. The Driver is responsible for monitoring vehicle mileage, scheduling preventative maintenance, transporting the van to LRTA in Lowell for repairs as necessary, conducting regular inventory of equipment and supplies, removing snow and ice from the vehicle, maintaining accurate logs, and communicating with dispatch staff through a tablet/iPad. The Driver participates in ongoing driver safety training and refresher courses to maintain compliance and performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: Valid Massachusetts driver’s license (7D license may be required depending on assignment) and a clean driving record is required. Must be comfortable operating an electric vehicle (EV). Ability to use a tablet/iPad for communication, daily schedules and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications: Completed Massachusetts driver safety training with emphasis on passenger safety and regulatory compliance. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; experience working with older adults and/or individuals with disabilities; ability to work independently; strong safety awareness; reliability and flexibility. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Pay Rate: $25 per hour
