Workers Credit Union receives
2019 Harvester Award from Worcester County Food Bank

FITCHBURG, Ma., November 21, 2019 – Workers Credit Union has received the Worcester County Food Bank’s 2019 Harvester Award after providing $40,000 of donations toward the WCFB’s efforts in 2018. The award is given annually to honor special individuals and organizations that demonstrate outstanding commitment to the Food Bank’s mission of feeding hungry people and working toward creating hunger-free communities.

In 2018, the credit union donated $11,000 from its annual GiveBack program and raised $29,000 during its holiday fundraising campaign in which Workers donated $5 for every new account opened and mobile app downloaded. In addition to Workers donations, members were able to donate their yearly GiveBack reward payout to the food bank as well as other selected charities.

“Receiving this award from the Worcester County Food Bank is a testament to the efforts of our members and their caring for others.” said Doug Petersen, president and CEO of Workers Credit Union. “The Food Bank supports food pantries across the entire region, feeding 81,000 people a year, and we are proud to support their work.”

During the Worcester County Food Banks Annual Meeting held on November 7th, Chief Operating Officer, Sandra Sagehorn-Elliott and employees Cierra Brownell, Thomas Littlepage, Donna McCullen, Darryl Richardson, and Johan Romero-Luna accepted the award on the credit union’s behalf.

Johan Romero-Luna, Area Manager for the Worcester region, praised the members and employees as well. “I’m so proud to be a part of a credit union that is truly invested in the community. Seeing the enthusiasm from our generous members and dedicated employees is inspiring.”
