Town of Ayer Awarded $309,510 Community Development
COVID-19 Impact Relief Grant
The Massachusetts Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD) has announced an award of a $309,510 Community Development Block Grant for COVID-19 State of Emergency Impact, known as CDBG-CV, to the Town of Ayer providing immediate financial relief for Ayer’s Micro-Businesses and for program assistance to a number of Public Social Service agencies and organizations.
The $309,510 Ayer CDBG-CV Grant local distribution includes $180,000 for Ayer Micro-Business Grants (five employees or fewer including business-owner) up to $10,000 each; $45,000 for the Nashoba Associated Boards of Health; $32,400 for Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry; $17,010 for the Ayer Public Library; $12,600 for Stone Soup Kitchen Ministries; and $4,500 for the Ayer Council on Aging.
Town Manager, Robert Pontbriand stated, “The COVID-19 State of Emergency has subjected Ayer’s local business community and public social service providers to unprecedented challenges and substantial loss of critical resources necessary to keeping their operations running and providing for the people who depend on them; this CDBG-CV Grant funding will provide a noteworthy measure of public relief and support to those most in need at this time.” Additionally, he stated that, “From the outset of the COVID-19 Pandemic back in March, the Ayer Select Board was very concerned about the potential negative impacts to Ayer’s small businesses as well as the impact on resources such as food, health, and social outreach for Ayer’s most vulnerable populations. Their leadership and support became the impetus for this grant application.”
The Ayer CDBG-CV Grant Program will be administered by the Ayer Office of Community & Economic Development (AOCED).
