Position Summary:

As a Shriver Job Corps team member, you will be teaching independent living skills to our potential graduates to ensure they experience positive group living in a clean and safe homelike environment.

Reporting to the Social Development Director. You will be responsible for monitoring and directing Residential Advisors on assigned shifts and/or in specific dormitories in the delivery of residential programs and activities to provide a safe and homelike atmosphere for students, ensuring effective dormitory management and maintenance, behavior management, and the development of social and independent living skills in compliance with Department of Labor (DOL) and management directives.


Essential Functions:

  1. Supervise and control group living conditions, evaluate situations and conditions within the dormitories and make decisions or recommendations.
  2. Perform administrative duties involving student passes, evaluations, progress reports, and emergencies for assigned shift.
  3. Monitor dormitory areas and perform residential advisor functions as necessary to ensure safety and proper student behavior in the dormitories; recommend facility or equipment maintenance as needed.
  4. Communicate with families of students by mail and phone as required to resolve problems and assure the well-being of students.
  5. Coordinate, oversee and track the success of programs that foster student retention.
  6. Review and audit all assigned areas regularly for contractual compliance and effectiveness of delivery of services to students. Prepare related reports.
  7. Requisition supplies to provide needs for dormitory living and safety of students.
  8. Participate in and conduct career preparation, career development and career transition service programs activities in accordance with the schedule, as needed/assigned.
  9. Conduct staff meetings to inform and review unit/dorm activities and make work assignments.
  10. Establish, implement and supervise control procedures to maximize student living standards.
  11. Inspect dormitory areas regularly; recommend facility maintenance where needed; direct dorm patrols and clean up.
  12. Audit departmental and student files, and CIS to ensure compliance with DOL and API directives; supervise proper administration of all paperwork, records and computer entries for assigned unit; ensure that specified documents are turned over to each shift; compile status report for area of responsibilities;
  13. Provide support to staff in dealing with behavior of students and resolving individual or group situations.
  14. Motivate and counsel students in areas of behavior, training, personal and study habits and coordinate with other staff as necessary to resolve issues.
  15. Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff, and other center customers.
  16. Participate in student employability programs and activities; develop and conduct enrichment programs as needed or assigned.
  17. Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps Zero Tolerance Policy and Center Behavior Management System.
  18. Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, consistently monitoring student behavior and conduct, and mentoring students where necessary.
  19. Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices; attend all required staff training.
  20. Coordinate with other staff and departments regarding issues related to the provision of student services and to interdepartmental and center programs, activities, and events.
  21. Cultivate and maintain a climate on center which is free of harassment, intimidation and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to live, learn and work.
