Position Summary:

Reports to the Safety & Security Supervisor. Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure living, learning, and working, environment; performing guard and patrol duties in assigned areas to protect life and property against theft, misappropriation, fire, flood or similar disaster; and transporting students in compliance with Department of Labor (DOL) and management directives.


Essential Functions:

  1. Ensure the physical security of buildings and property by checking doors, windows, lights, electrical appliances, equipment, locks and emergency equipment; maintain log of findings and corrective action taken as required.
  2. Perform various administrative functions and tasks such as entering and maintaining daily logs, preparing incident reports, and conducting investigations as directed; answering phones and welcoming staff, students and visitors/guests to the Center.
  3. Assure accountability (protocol) of student check-in and out (to and from center grounds) by conducting sign in/out procedures according to API guidelines and directives.
  4. Perform parking and traffic control duties; check identification of personnel and students seeking entrance to or exit from grounds and permit or deny entrance or exit according to established policies and procedures.
  5. Perform routine vehicle equipment inspections, including lights, brakes, mirrors, steering and other required operating equipment; document findings as required and recommend mechanical repairs as needed.
  6. Assist in transporting ill or injured students and staff as required.
  7. Respond to fire alarms, take necessary steps to report fires, assist in suppressing fires and reset fire alarm equipment.
  8. Set up and check operation of intrusion alarm systems in buildings as required.
  9. Assist staff and law enforcement personnel in controlling disturbances; conduct preliminary investigation of crimes.
  10. Promote and support the center wide development of the Career Development Services System (CDSS) program.
  11. Provide proactive conflict resolution with students and refer them to other staff and departments as appropriate and necessary.
  12. Conduct initial investigation of incidents and provide timely documentation of same.
  13. Assist Senior Security Officer and Safety & Security Manager in coordinating and instituting programs that foster student retention.
  14. Assist center staff in conducting required health and safety inspecting.
  15. Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.
  16. Motivate and counsel students in areas of behavior, individual and group safety, training, personal and study habits, and coordinate with other staff as necessary to intervene/resolve issues.
  17. Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff, and other center customers.
  18. Participate in student employability programs and activities; develop and conduct enrichment programs as needed or assigned.
  19. Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps Zero Tolerance Policy and Center Behavior Management System.
  20. Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, consistently monitoring student behavior and conduct, and mentoring students where necessary.
  21. Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices; attend all required staff training.
  22. Coordinate with other staff and departments regarding issues related to the provision of student services and to interdepartmental and center programs, activities, and events.
  23. Cultivate and maintain a climate on center which is free of harassment, intimidation and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to live, learn and work.


It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
