Position Summary:

As a Recreation team member, you will be responsible for expanding their knowledge on basic health and wellness as well as support the students in their off-hour activities. In this role you, assist the team in monthly activity planning that takes place for the students after the training day. These activities cover anything from on center such as basketball, football, weight training, arts and crafts and anything entertainment related as well as off-center activities such as go-karting, movie trips and shopping trips for the students. (COVID safe of course). Best part is you also get to participate with the students in whatever activity you’re coordinating that day. Reports to the Recreation/ Evening Studies Coordinator. Responsible for the administration and monitoring of students engaged in recreation and leisure learning programs and activities, including center-sponsored activities and events on-center and off-center in compliance with Department of Labor (DOL) and management directives.


Essential Functions:

  1. Assist the Recreation/Extended Studies Coordinator in planning, implementing and coordinating a comprehensive and diversified recreation and leisure learning programs which will attract voluntary participation and assist students in adopting and developing healthy living practices and life styles.
  2. Organize and supervise student participation in a variety of recreation and leisure learning programs and activities; chaperone and instruct students in on-center and off-center programs, activities, functions and events.
  3. Conduct, coordinate and monitor recreation and leisure learning programs and activities; assist with monitoring of the student store.
  4. Assist the Coordinator in the development and distribution of weekly, monthly and seasonal calendars and schedules of programs activities; provide information regarding special and scheduled activities.
  5. Support new student Career Preparation Period planning and assist students in developing individual recreation and leisure learning activity plans per the approved schedule based on their personal needs and interests.
  6. Organize and oversee special activities; maintain and develop liaison with community organizations providing recreational opportunities and facilities and educational or career related activities and events.
  7. Operate and maintain DVD/video projection system and related equipment; assist in the evaluation of DVD/video offerings through student input and personal evaluation and make recommendations as necessary; organize a calendar of DVD/video showings.
  8. Inspect facilities regularly; maintain quality standards; control use of equipment and supplies.
  9. Support and participate in the Center’s Career Development Services System by creating positive peer leadership and role modeling opportunities and techniques for students to learn, demonstrate and practice through their participation in recreation and leisure learning programs and activities.
  10. Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work and training environment.
  11. Motivate and counsel students in areas of behavior, training, personal and study habits and coordinate with other staff as necessary to resolve issues.
  12. Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff, and other center customers.
  13. Participate in student employability programs and activities; develop and conduct enrichment programs as needed or assigned.
  14. Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps Zero Tolerance Policy and Center Behavior Management System.
  15. Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, consistently monitoring student behavior and conduct, and mentoring students where necessary.
  16. Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices; attend all required staff training.
  17. Coordinate with other staff and departments regarding issues related to the provision of student services and to interdepartmental and center programs, activities, and events.
  18. Cultivate and maintain a climate on center which is free of harassment, intimidation and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to live, learn and work.
