Employment Opportunity



The Town of Ayer is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Custodian.  The Custodian is responsible for performing manual work caring for and maintaining the buildings, grounds, and related equipment for the Town.  The position of Custodian is a full time (40 hours a week) position that works under the general supervision of the Facilities Director, Town Manager, or others as designated, requiring the ability to plan and perform operations and independently complete assigned tasks according to a prescribed time schedule.  The Custodian is responsible for cleaning offices, meeting rooms, bathrooms, and common areas; performs minor repairs and maintenance; routinely checks boilers and other building utility systems to ensure proper operation.  Performs minor repairs and maintenance as needed.  Performs outside work including mowing grass, raking leaves, sweeping steps and walkways, and removing snow/ice and applying sand.   The Custodian must maintain confidentiality with access to the Police Station and Town Hall. Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent; experience in custodial and maintenance work or equivalent combination of education and experience; must have a valid drivers’ license; must successfully pass a CORI and physical exam. 

Salary/Benefits:  Salary range per Union Contract:  $16.63 - $17.38 per hour; after July 1, 2021 $16.96-$17.73 per hour.  Full time (40 hours a week); non-exempt position; occasional overtime opportunities; Union position with benefits including vacation/personal/sick time; health insurance; retirement system; optional deferred compensation plan.
