CATEGORY Career Coaching  

Position Summary:

As a Shriver Job Corps team member, you will be responsible for providing students with individual career coaching and transitional services to get them prepared for the working world. You will work on a vast array of things such as job searching, resume wiring, to interview skills. You help students progress and build competency and accountably. You will help them build and set expectations to their environment and what they can expect in the working world.

The ideal candidate will have experience in academic and/or career advising, be comfortable performing outreach with businesses and community partners in support of future job placements, and ongoing case management with an assigned group of students.

Reports to the Outreach/Admissions and Career Transition Services Manager. Responsible for providing students with individual career transition services in compliance with Department of Labor (DOL) and management directives.


Essential Functions:

  1. Assist students with career selection and job searches leading to initial placement and/or quality placement.
  2. Provide labor market information on geographic areas of interest of graduates.
  3. Participate in job development committee assessments.
  4. Provide referral or post separation services as needed.
  5. Review and audit all assigned areas regularly for contractual compliance and effectiveness of delivery of services to students. Prepare related reports.
  6. Maintain program linkages with DOL, national, state and local agencies to provide career transition services to graduates.
  7. Monitor and document job placement follow-up on CTS eligible students.
  8. Assess student career readiness levels; assess student's workplace barriers and provide individual plans for successful placement.
  9. Identify potential jobs, schools, military or other training program for separating graduates.
  10. Maintain and update student documentation needed for placement such as certifications, diplomas, and resumes.
  11. Coordinate and maintain communication and collaboration with other departments pertaining to students' career transition.
  12. Maintain in-depth knowledge and understanding of center reports that impact placement.
  13. Conduct job development and establish linkages with state contractors as well as employers to assist with job placement activities and job development.
  14. Assist in the development of the center's career transition plan.
  15. Maintain individual graduate files, ensuring file meets national, regional, and MTC expectations.
  16. Develop meaningful/off-center programs to promote graduate placement, job retention and advancement.
  17. Transport graduates to social services agencies, one-stop facilities, and employment interviews as needed.
  18. Assess and monitor student's workplace ethics and mentor as necessary.
  19. Provide students with ongoing support to ensure continued employment, education, industry certification/licensure, and career progression.
  20. Assist students in identifying and obtaining support services within the communities in which they work and live.
  21. Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps Zero Tolerance Policy and Center Behavior Management System by ensuring students demonstrate and practice set behavioral expectations that support employability and social development for career readiness success that are consistent with Center policies and expectations.
  22. Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.
  23. Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff, and other center customers.
  24. Participate in student employability programs and activities; develop and conduct enrichment programs as needed or assigned.
  25. Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, consistently monitoring student behavior and conduct, and mentoring students where necessary.
  26. Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices; attend all required staff training.
  27. Coordinate with other staff and departments regarding issues related to the provision of student services and to interdepartmental and center programs, activities, and events.
  28. Cultivate and maintain a climate on center which is free of harassment, intimidation and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to live, learn and work.


It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
