Summary – Job Responsibilities – Activities:

Support Gridtec Solutions™ by conducting power system studies and modeling related to the AMSC® STATCOM products using load flow, transient stability and electromagnetic transient simulation tools.

Functions:

  • Supports detailed application and design studies for AMSC®’s products including FACTS systems, power electronic converters, energy storage solutions, fault current limiters and high capacity superconductor cable systems
  • Uses network analysis software to perform detailed load flow, transient stability and electromagnetic transient studies in assessing system requirements and appropriate solution options (using either current or innovative new technologies)
  • Performs power systems analyses pertaining to renewable energy integration, transmission and distribution system expansion, voltage stability, and reliability and power quality
  • Performs detailed analyses of industrial power quality problems and designs/recommends appropriate solutions
  • Writes study reports and technical sections of project proposals for STATCOM projects

Education – Experience:

  • Junior or Senior in an Electrical Engineering program with emphasis on power systems
  • In addition to power systems courses, candidates who have taken classes on control systems and courses that involve basic programming skills (Python, Matlab, C) are preferred

Required Skills, Competencies, Authorities and Training Needs:

  • Understanding of high voltage power systems
  • Understanding of power electronics devices, controls and systems
  • Understanding of electric circuits
  • Ability to develop and/or modify models in simulation software (Matlab Simulink, PSpice, etc.)
  • Proficiency in a programming language (Python preferred)
