Job Description:
General Statement of Duties
Mount Wachusett Community College seeks an educator who believes that engaging and authentic teaching matters more than anything else in the pursuit of student success. This educator designs an innovative classroom culture that embraces diversity and fosters student empowerment. Building positive connections, the successful faculty member will create a sense of belonging that motivates students and strengthens their desire to learn.
The faculty member provides classroom instruction in several fields of biology including plant science, soil science, introductory (general) biology, ecology, evolution, environmental studies and greenhouse management. The faculty should be committed to using active learning strategies and student engagement. The faculty member will possess excellent writing and communication skills, academic credentials, technological proficiency, and the expertise to provide students in programs across the college with the scientific skills needed for future academic and career opportunities. This faculty member will teach at the Gardner, Leominster, Devens campuses as well as online.
Responsibilities

  • Provides classroom instruction in all areas of biology to include plant science, introductory (general) biology, ecology, botany, and greenhouse management; oversees students placed in NRD practicums;
  • Advises approximately 18 students and maintains office hours;
  • Serves on college committees as elected or appointed;
  • Attends regularly scheduled program, division, and college meetings;
  • Teaches courses as assigned by the Dean;
  • Assists the program chair in the development of new courses and/or programs as necessary;
  • Participates in college service activities (e.g., college committees, meetings, activities, etc.);
  • Participates in community service and professional development activities; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 

Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in biology/botany/related environmental field;
  • 3-5 years college level teaching experience;
  • Proven track record of student engagement and success; and
  • Ability to teach all levels of biology from general biology to plant science as well as ecology and greenhouse management,
  • Be proficient in oral and written communication
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Doctorate in plant sciences/botany or related field;
  • Experience teaching first generation and underserved students;
  • Experience with active and experiential teaching and learning;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Knowledge of nationally-recognized reform efforts in the areas of instructional and curricular innovation practices.

Additional Information:

Salary: $44,168.00-$91,561.00 **
Anticipated salary range is $44,168.00-$91,561.00 per year plus fringe benefits.  **Actual salary will be determined in accordance with the classification system of the MCCC/MTA Agreement based on the candidate's academic credentials, related experience, related licenses and certifications.
