Position Summary:

This position serves as the first point of contact for visitors or others contacting the Home Health Agency.  This position performs a wide range of clerical duties to support the Home Health staff.


Major Responsibilities:

Greets all persons entering department with professionalism and courtesy.  Determines nature and purpose of visit and directs them appropriately.

Answers phone within three rings in a courteous manner, identifying self and department. Screens and forwards call as well as provide information and takes messages.

Makes necessary phone calls to physician offices or patient homes for Home Health staff if warranted.

Reports all systems issues to management and the IS Help Desk in order to resolve issues as quickly as possible.

Files and distributes reports in a timely manner as requested by management

Assists with inventory of office supplies and orders supplies as needed.

Distributes all incoming/outgoing mail as needed.

Reviews and completes daily assigned work queues related to Insurance Verification.

Keeps current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards and/or books, bulletin boards, posted notices and reads and responds to e mails on a regular basis.

Practices cost containment and fiscal responsibility through the efficient use of supplies, equipment, time, etc.

Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.

Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.

Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.

Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.

Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standard of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.

Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.

Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

Position Qualifications:



High School diploma or equivalent.



Must have a minimum of 3 months of clerical experience and experience with office equipment (fax, PC, printers, copier).

Must have working knowledge and experience with computerized office software.

Must have proven customer service skills, be detail oriented and possess clerical, organizational and communication skills.

Must have knowledge of medical terminology and be able to type a minimum of 45 words per minute.

Must have excellent telephone skills.

Must be able to handle multiple task at one time.

Must have good organizational skills.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments.  The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description.  Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
