The Littleton Country Fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 10 at Fay Park, 20 Foster St., Littleton.
This annual family event includes a yard sale of household goods, books, jewelry, gently used toys and sporting equipment, as well as a farmers market and petting zoo. Children activities include face painting, pony rides and old-fashioned games. The fair will also feature free live music from open to close, and attendees will have the opportunity to buy homemade jams, jellies, pies, scones and lunch.
The day will kick off by welcoming walkers from See A New Sun on their annual 3-mile journey to raise awareness and funds about suicide prevention and mental illness. Registration opens at 9 a.m., followed by the walk, led by Barbara Whitcomb, of Littleton. For information, visit tinyurl.com/SANS-fair.
There will be a clearance sale at 3 p.m. at the Trash and Treasure and book sale tables, where attendees can bring brown paper bags and take home leftovers for $2 a bag.
Area nonprofit organizations will offer information about their activities and services. The Church of the Latter Day Saints will provide free genealogical searches for ancestors. Attendees can learn about Henry David Thoreau’s religion, Unitarian Universalism, which sponsors the fair.
The fair dates back to the late 1800s, when the Women’s Alliance of First Church Unitarian in Littleton sold homemade jams and jellies to benefit the church, a tradition that continues today. Ten percent of the profits will benefit a local nonprofit organization. Last year, the church made a donation to the Castle in the Trees playground.
Residents are advised to wear sunscreen and walking shoes. Admission and parking are free. For information, visit fculittle.org/country-fair.
