Public Policy Series sponsored by Mt. Wachusett Community College
In 1993, Massachusetts enacted a landmark education reform law that that catapulted the Commonwealth to heights that had never been seen before in terms of public school student achievement.
Sadly, over the last decade, the fall has been nearly as dramatic. Only a few other states are seeing national test scores plummet so quickly, and SAT scores are also dropping.
While Massachusetts’ rise was front-page news, few are even aware of the decline. But on June 15, Pioneer Institute Senior Fellow Charlie Chieppo will paint the picture of what’s happening and how we got here.
Pioneer Institute is an independent, non-partisan, privately funded research organization that seeks to improve the quality of life in Massachusetts through civic discourse and intellectually rigorous, data-driven public policy solutions based on free market principles, individual liberty and responsibility, and the ideal of effective, limited and accountable government.
Charlie Chieppo, Principal of Chieppo Strategies, a public policy and communication firm and Senior fellow at Pioneer Institute. Adjunct professor at Suffolk University. Contributor at GBH and WBUR. Mr. Chieppo’s writing has appeared include the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, New York Daily News and Boston Globe.
