DESCRIPTION:The Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation is pleased to host a briefing and leadership forum on Combating Elder Financial Abuse. Together with the Executive Office of Elder Affairs\, the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office and the Division of Banks\, this collaborative multi-agency effort will bring greater awareness and initiative around this issue.\n\n \n\nYou won't want to miss it! Join us on . . .  \n\nJanuary 17th at the\n\nMoakley Federal Courthouse's Jury Assembly Room\,\n\n1 Courthouse Way\, Boston\, MA \n\n2pm to 3:30pm\n\n\n\nWhy you should attend.\n\n	The National Council on Aging estimates that elder financial abuse costs the elder population more than $36.5 billion annually.\n	Individuals over the age of 60 make up the largest growing segment of the population and many of them are people you know and work with.\n	Perpetrators of elder financial abuse are often family members\, friends\, or caregivers who have access to personal information and finances.\n\n	 \n\nAwareness is key to detecting and preventing elder financial abuse.This event will highlight the need for education amongst the financial services sector\, law enforcement and elder advocate groups and discuss best practices and efforts being taken to help combat elder financial abuse.\n\n\n\nSpeakers include:\n\nJohn Chapman\, Undersecretary\, Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation\n\nAlice Bonner\, Secretary\, Executive Office of Elder Affairs\n\nMarian Ryan\, District Attorney\, Middlesex County\n\nTerence McGinnis\, Commissioner\, Division of Banks\n\n \n\nA panel discussion\, moderated by Undersecretary John Chapman\, will follow.\n\n \n\nLight refreshments will be served.
