Student Info

Requirements:
\n\n
Students must have at least 2 years of private lessons or equivalent experience\, solid technique with their instrument\, and good music theory and reading skills. For students just beginning to learn an instrument check out our \;Summer Music Explorers \;program!
\n \;\n\n
Auditions:
\n\n
Students who are not currently registered at IHM may have an informal placement meeting with faculty to select appropriate core classes\, help choose elective courses\, and determine level of literature for ensembles. Placement auditions scheduled by appointment. If it is decided that a student does not yet possess the skills to participate in the program\, other summer options will be offered. Credit or refund will be issued for any tuition paid.

Piano Students:
\n\n
All piano students will have a placement audition (dates TBA) so they can be matched appropriately in ensembles. Please note that we make every effort to place everyone appropriately within a wide range of playing levels. If a student'\;s skill level does not match that of other students\, the faculty may recommend more suitable options other than Summer Day Music. Pieces will be assigned ahead of time\, and students are expected to practice and to prepare the music with their teacher before the program begins.

Voice Students:
\n\n
Students must be at least 12 years old to take the Voice Core curriculum. Voice electives are open to all ages\, though some elective classes may have age restrictions.

Partial Program Enrollment:
\n\n
Due to the nature of the SummerDayMusic program and curriculum\, it is not possible for students to enroll for only a portion of the program schedule\, such as half days or one week of the full two week schedule. Every student is an important part of each group\, class\, or ensemble in which they participate\, and daily attendance is crucial to continuity of their musical and educational experience.

Orientation
\n\n
The first day of the program will begin with a brief orientation meeting for all students. Parents are welcome to stay for the orientation. Building and etiquette rules will be shared\, along with information about what to expect each day. School staff and faculty will be introduced so students know who to go to with questions or problems.
