SUMMARY:* Meet the Artists: Carole Farnsworth Rabe (Gallery Sitka)
DESCRIPTION:https://www.facebook.com/events/610707939082710/\n\n\n\nJoin us for snacks\, grab a drink at the Bar and support the local art scene! This month of June we are hosting the works of artist Carole Farnsworth Rabe\, originally of Shirley. Join us for a whole new show on June 8th!\n\n\n\nWork will be up June 4th - July 3rd.\n\n\n\nCarole Farnsworth Rabe\n\nArtist's Statement\n\n\n\nI receive my inspiration from intense observation of my surroundings and my response to what I see. The way light hits a countertop or the side of a chair is the spark that gets the painting started. The color of light influences the color of objects and creates interactions between disparate things. My paintings are about the relationships between these elements. \n\n\n\nMy imagery is personal\; I need some connection to my subject matter in order for me to claim it in a painting. I work from direct observation\; I am very interested in how the human eye perceives the things around us\, and how the hand and heart work to put the image down on canvas. It's a wonderful feeling when the reality of the painting takes on a life of its own and exists on its own\, apart from the objects observed. It seems like such a simple thing but there is something magical and transcendent about this aspect of representation that has a very strong power for me.\n\n\n\nCarole Farnsworth Rabe\n\nBiography\n\n\n\nCarole Farnsworth Rabe grew up in Shirley and spent a great deal of her childhood in the woods\, where she developed a great love of color and light as experienced through nature. This experience led to her interest in light and color and how the human eye perceives space. Rabe primarily paints interior/exterior views of her home in Natick\, MA\, at different times of day and in different weather conditions. She paints from sustained direct observation\, setting up her easel and oil paints in the space she is painting. She works with a limited palette of colors\, creating surprising color relationships. She has many paintings in progress simultaneously\, one for each time of the day and weather condition. \n\n\n\nShe recently retired to focus full-time on her painting career. She was an Assistant Professor of Art at Pine Manor College\, Chestnut Hill\, MA\, as well as Art Program Coordinator and Director of the Hess Gallery on campus. She is currently teaching at Danforth Museum School in Framingham.\n\n\n\nShe earned her Master of Fine Arts degree from Boston University's College of Fine Arts and her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Hartford Art School of the University of Hartford. \n\n\n\nHer paintings can be seen at Powers Gallery\, Acton\, MA and The Atelier Gallery\, Charleston\, SC.
