SUMMARY:Massachusetts Main Street Fairness Coalition Information Session
DESCRIPTION:The Massachusetts Main Street Fairness Coalition was formed to support efforts to close the sales tax loophole that exists in MA which allows online only\, remote sellers\, to avoid collection and remittance of the state's sales tax. The Coalition believes that whether a sale is made online or at a little store in Faneuil Hall\, a sale is made\, a transaction has occurred and the sales tax is owed. The same rules should apply online that apply on Main Street. It is a simple matter of fairness.\n	\n \n Our local small businesses operate at a significant 6.25% price disadvantage to out-of-state\, online businesses\, leading to fewer sales at brick-and-mortar establishments who contribute so much to our community. Our employers can't fairly compete with online giants that don't collect sales taxes and don't have the same local presence in our communities. By circumventing sales tax collection on purchases\, online merchants are able to undercut the total price of identical products and profit through an unfair advantage over local brick-and-mortar retailers. \n \n With internet sales figures increasing by double digit percentages each year\, a level sales tax playing field is vital to preserving our Massachusetts retailers' ability to remain competitive. The time to act is now! \n\n \n\n \n\n More information on the Main Street Fairness Coalition (including links to articles available) at https://www.retailersma.org/pages/1459_main_street_fairness_coalition.cfm
