\n Jessica L. Griffin\, Psy.D.\, Childhood Trauma: Impact and Healing

\n Dr. Griffin will provide an overview of the types of trauma youth encounter\, \;\n\n \n \n \n  | \n  | \n \n \n | \n Dr. Jessica Griffin | \n \n \n \n and the impact of childhood trauma and toxic stress on children and families. Discussion will include how some emotional and behavioral issues or symptoms in children can be better understood as a reaction to their trauma histories. \; Dr. Griffin will discuss resiliency factors and what can be done to help children and adolescents heal\; including various treatment options. \; She will identify local and national resources that can be used to assist traumatized youth in various capacities. \; A question and answer session related to trauma and recovery from traumatic experiences will conclude her presentation.

\n Jessica L. Griffin\, Psy.D. is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS)\, where she has been a faculty member since 2006. \; Dr. \;Griffin is a nationally recognized psychologist\, public speaker and expert in trauma and relationships. \; She is a national trainer in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) having provided ongoing consultation for over 2500 clinicians across the United States including Massachusetts\, Connecticut\, New York\, Rhode Island\, Maine\, Florida\, and California. \; \;In September of 2012\, as Principal Investigator\, Dr. Griffin was awarded a 4-year\, $1.6 million \;Category III (Community Treatment and Services Center) National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) \;grant by the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to develop the University of Massachusetts Medical School'\;s Child Trauma Training Center (UMMS-CTTC) where she serves as Executive Director\; her center has provided training in trauma-informed care to over 14\,000 professionals in the Commonwealth. \; UMMS-CTTC was refunded in 2016 to 2021 with a 5-year\, $2 million grant award to expand her work statewide\, focusing on high risk\, underserved populations. \; Dr. Griffin is also a partner on numerous other regional and national initiatives regarding trauma-informed care and has authored numerous publications related to trauma\, evidence-based treatment\, and relationships. \;

\n Dr. \;Griffin is a clinical and forensic psychologist with a specialty in trauma\, child maltreatment\, marriage\, divorce\, and relationships providing consultation to agencies and professional groups as well as expert witness testimony for the courts. Dr. Griffin has maintained a private practice for over a decade where she works with couples and families. \; She presents regularly at a local\, national and international level on topics related to childhood trauma\, TF-CBT\, relationships\, and forensic evaluation of children and families. \; Dr. Griffin has been featured on NPR\, Fox News\, the Insider\, iHeartRadio\, Worcester Magazine\, local radio stations and newspapers and is the psychological expert on a television docuseries about marriage\, relationships\, and divorce\, the "\;Seven Year Switch"\; on A&\;E'\;s FYI Network. \;
