In 1752\, the first tavern was built on land that would become Shirley. It served as a place for rest and refreshment for locals and travelers. Two hundred years later\, a night club was built nearby serving food\, drink\, and entertainment. Over 20 taverns\, bars\, and night clubs did business in Shirley over the centuries.
\n\nOn Saturday July 13th\, the Shirley Historical Society is inviting folks to learn about these establishments and to take a bus tour visiting their locations. The tour starts at 4:00 pm at the Bull Run Restaurant with an explanation of Shirley&rsquo\;s drinking history and the effects of Prohibition. Then the group boards the bus for the tour\, stopping along the way for one libation.
