SUMMARY:* Harvard Common Memories
DESCRIPTION:Harvard Common Memories\n\n \n\n Sunday\, May 21 1:30 p.m.\n\n Tour of the Memorials on the Common \n\n \n\n \n\n The Harvard Inn Christmas postcard from the Archives at the HHS.\n\n \n\n In the 1940's Route 110-111 was a main road for travelers heading to New Hampshire and Maine\, so Harvard was not an "out of the way" spot for an Inn. During summer weekends the Harvard Inn was a popular stop on the way to summer homes and beaches. The three small dining rooms could seat about 50 people\; on busy holiday weekends the Common might have cars parked all around. There were eight rooms for guests on the second floor. A room at the Inn cost $2.50 to $4 a night per person in the 1940's. In winter\, some Harvard residents who wanted comforts of the town center took rooms for months at a time. The Inn closed in the early 1950's and the building was turned into apartments.\n\n \n\n Tour of the Memorials on the Common \n\n A Walking Tour of Harvard Common featuring Harvard's Soldier's Monuments and more! Come enjoy a walk on the common as we explore the history behind five of Harvard's War Monuments.\n\n \n\n Meet us at the Still River Rd entrance to the Center Burial Grounds\, between the General Store and Congregational Church\, at 1:30 PM to begin your tour.\n\n This tour is part of the Freedom's Way Hidden Treasures program--find out more at their website\n\n http://www.discoverhiddentreasures.org\n\n \n\n Support the Harvard Historical Society:\n\n We are a non-profit organization and do not receive any town funding\; all our operations are made possible by our members\n\n just go to the members page on our website\n\n http://harvardhistory.org\n\n You can use paypal or download a membership form: all contributions are tax deductible\n\n \n\n Harvard Historical Society\n\n 215 Still River Road\n\n 978 456 8285\n\n http://www.harvardhistory.org curator@harvardhistory.org
