SUMMARY:* Diabetes Prevention Summit
DESCRIPTION:Dear Massachusetts Employer\, \n\n \n\nWe invite you to attend the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Diabetes Prevention Summit on Tuesday\, November 1\, 2016\, 8:30am to 4:00pm\, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Westborough\, MA. The event is FREE and open to all employers.\n\n \n\n	Diabetes and pre-diabetes are a cause of high expense to self-insured and fully-insured employers. Average annual health care costs for a person with pre-diabetes are $5\,000 and for a person with newly diagnosed diabetes\, $12\,000 (based on 2009 data). Amazingly\, about 1 in 3 Americans have pre-diabetes and 90% of them aren't aware they have it.\n\n \n\n\n	The good news is that Massachusetts is working to expand awareness of\, and access to the evidence-based Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP)\, an effective lifestyle change program guided by the federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The DPP has been proven to help people with pre-diabetes lower their chances of getting diabetes by 58%. \n\n \n\nDuring the Diabetes Prevention Summit\, you will have an opportunity to hear from various Diabetes Prevention Program providers and employers who have offered DPP to their employees. The attached fact sheet provide information on the Diabetes Prevention Program and how it can impact your employees and your health care costs. \n\n \n\nTo register for this FREE opportunity\, visit: http://www.cvent.com/d/cvq172. If you have questions\, please contact Max Alderman\, Diabetes Program Coordinator\, at Max.Alderman@state.ma.us\n\n \n\nThank you\,\n\n \n\nShioban E. Torres\, DrPH\, MPH\n\nWorksite Wellness Coordinator\n\nDivision of Prevention and Wellness\n\nBureau of Community Health and Prevention\n\nMassachusetts Department of Public Health\n\n250 Washington Street\, 4th Floor\n\nBoston\, MA 02108\n\nPhone: 617.624.6065
